Movie Review: Dunkirk

When the credits roll on Christopher Nolan's latest film - a cinematic experience that brings the full scale of the Battle of Dunkirk to the big screen for the first time - the audience is left speechless. Unlike nearly all of his other films, it's not because you're trying Read more

Dream-Casting a Live-Action Little Mermaid for Disney

Perhaps no task is more difficult for a studio than casting a well-known franchise to match the sky-high expectations of fans. From novels to comic books to animated film remakes, Hollywood has had mixed results with the task; some have spent the big bucks to get the demanded stars, Read more

Best Movies of 2016: The 3rd Annual Groucho Awards

Welcome to the Third Annual Groucho Awards! This is my own platform to nominate and award the movies of my choosing, because it seems that far too often, the movies with the biggest campaigns get Oscar nominations and the little guys are left out in the cold. This year Read more

A compelling case that Corinne is six-years-old, and other Bachelor nonsense

Written by: @jeremywilson412 In the words of Chris Harrison, "Coming up on this week's episode (recap) of The Bachelor..." The ladies receive their first real test, we pause to remember those we lost this week, I present a theory about Corinne that is bulletproof, and we discuss the contenders and pretenders. But Read more

I was not going to write about The Bachelor, but then...

(Written by: @JeremyWilson412) I wasn’t going to write about The Bachelor this year, but then a girl showed up in a shark costume convinced it was a dolphin costume. I wasn’t going to write about The Bachelor this year, but then a girl showed up who hooked up with Nick at Read more

What I Learned about Chris Pratt's Faith

Most of us have loved Chris Pratt since we first met him as Andy Dwyer on Parks and Rec. Then he made his dramatic debuts in Academy Award Best Picture nominees Moneyball and Zero Dark Thirty. The latter revealed that he could be an action star, so it came as no surprise Read more

Top 50 Films of 2012: 1-10

Posted on by Clayton Martin in Featured, Movie Reviews, Movies | Leave a comment

All good things must come to an end. I hope you’ve considered my top 50 films of 2012 countdown a good thing and I hope to bring it home with a strong top 10 finale. A big part of why I like to write about movies so much is that I want to make people aware of all the special movies that are made that don’t have the budget to air commercials every half hour for weeks on end. There are a lot of creative and brilliant filmmakers out there who make brilliant works of art but they don’t have mass appeal, so they often get swept under the rug. Through this list I’ve tried to highlight as many of these as possible without being that tool that only names obscure movies to try to look cool. Nobody likes that guy and that’s not my intention.

So as we conclude this list, my hope is that you’ll look back through 11-30 and 31-50 and pick out a few films you may have missed from 2012 and give them a fair shot. And by a fair shot, I mean that you shouldn’t just stare at your phone the whole time and then tell me I recommend boring movies. Also one last reminder that if you click on the titles of these films, I’ve already linked a trailer for you. Read more

Top 50 Films of 2012: 31-50

Last February as The Wise Guise was making its debut, I was frantically trying to rank my top 25 films of 2011. I did posts with numbers 11-25, and then 1-10. Looking back, there are a few that I would definitely re-order a little bit. But I’m still very proud of my top two especially.

This year, I want to step my game up and rank my top 50… which is a daunting task to undertake for sure. I just feel like there were so many films that deserve to be spotlighted and a top 25 would not do them all justice. I even have a Word document of another 50+ that I wanted to try to see this year. At the time of this post though, I have seen 78 films from 2012. And what a year it was for film! Read more

This week for The Ten I’ve decided to lay out all the movies I’m looking forward to for the remainder of the year. And there are lots. I’m damn near giddy for The Dark Knight Rises to grace us with its presence and so I thought this was the perfect time to share all the movies I’m pumped for closing out the year.

Josh Smith: Misguided Summer Movie Guide

Posted on by Guest in Featured, Guest Spots, Movie Previews, Movies | 3 Comments

This guest post comes from one of the funniest people The Wise Guise writers know, Josh Smith. Josh is the Director of Contemporary Worship at Christ United Methodist Church in Memphis, TN. We are thrilled he found the time to join us for a guest post and we hope you enjoy! You can follow Josh on Twitter at @yeshuasmith and check out his music on iTunes here.

A couple of weeks ago, The Wise Guise TM approached me about doing a guest post and so I assumed that they wanted me to do a rundown of this summer’s hot upcoming movie releases. I also thought that was strange, because I haven’t actually seen a summer movie in the theater since I bought a minivan and started wearing socks with my sandals, but I was able to Google the movie posters so I’m pretty sure I’ve nailed this one. I now humbly present, The Wise Guise Summer Movie Guide TM. You’re welcome. Read more
