Best Movies of 2016: The 3rd Annual Groucho Awards

Welcome to the Third Annual Groucho Awards! This is my own platform to nominate and award the movies of my choosing, because it seems that far too often, the movies with the biggest campaigns get Oscar nominations and the little guys are left out in the cold. This year Read more

A compelling case that Corinne is six-years-old, and other Bachelor nonsense

WrestleMania

Football has the Super Bowl, film has the Academy Awards and for those of us who grew up fans of the lucrative world of sports entertainment that is WWE, professional wrestling has WrestleMania.

The once-a-year spectacle has played host to some of the greatest moments in the company’s history. Every spring, followers of Vince McMahon’s brainchild are treated to an almost religious experience of high-profile matches and celebrity appearances.

This year, WrestleMania will celebrate its 29th anniversary from MetLife Stadium in New Jersey, an occurrence WWE is promoting as a homecoming of sorts given the New York metropolitan area was the location for the first WrestleMania and two of them since. In honor of this, I bring to you my personal list of the top 29 most significant moments in the show’s history. In case you missed them, you can see the first nine entries here and the second part here. Read more

Wolfpac Recap: 2013 WWE Royal Rumble

My journey back to being an occasional pro wrestling fan has been well-documented here at The Wise Guise. First, when my little brother-in-law arrived from South Africa, The Rock returned to WrestleMania and The Undertaker went for his 20th win to stay undefeated at WrestleMania, I caught up on what had happened in wrestling since I’d last watched a decade ago.  Then, I couldn’t resist watching again when so many of the top WWE superstars competed in Money in the Bank ladder matches. That prompted me to write my first Wolfpac Recap, a wrestling recap done by a former fan who loved the nWo Wolfpac and doesn’t really know much about who each wrestler is or the story lines. Since then, Alex Beene of The Wise Guise has discussed how relevant WWE still is in 2013.

*Wolfpac Recap Disclaimer: I don’t have much knowledge about wrestling. Other than my experience following pro-wrestling from 1998-2000 and what my 12-year-old brother-in-law Aphiwe tells me, my only other knowledge comes from 5 minute stints of looking things up on Wikipedia, reading The Masked Man’s columns on Grantland.com, and skimming WWE.com summaries.**

Kramer-Seinfeld-Portrait

Ah, 90’s entertainment. For today’s generation of youngsters, it’s probably an era akin to the digital Stone Age. Internet was dial-up, cell phones were attached to bulky bags in our cars and Google was some search engine weird people used (all the cool kids in computer lab were on Yahoo! or Netscape). 5 Reasons Why I Love The Olympics

Posted on by Clayton Martin in Featured, Other Sports, Sports | Leave a comment

So we got a little ridiculous last week with our argument on whether or not the Olympics are still necessary. I still don’t really understand how one can argue that they aren’t but that’s not the purpose of this post. The purpose of this post is merely to share why I personally love the Olympics. Read more
