I feel as if I must start every introduction the same: “Hi, my name is Grant Oster—no, it’s Oster, as in Toaster.”
I hate to say it, but I am a typical Memphian. I believe that all other Bar-B-Q is inferior, I love Memphis basketball, and I hate when non-Memphians try to talk to me about Elvis or Three 6 Mafia.
In 2005, I started at The University of Memphis as a History major. I moved from job to job in the “real” world; therefore, my choice of major changed as well: History, Hospitality and Resort Management, Marketing, Criminal Justice, Computer Science, and Management Information Services. After all that, I’ve landed back on History. I realized that it isn’t the actual major that matters, just the completion of a degree. So I should take classes that I enjoy, right?
Speaking of what I enjoy…
I love writing. In my dream world, I’d wake up…dabble in the stock market…write an editorial piece or a corporate blog post…then call it a day. Outside of writing, my favorite things are history, Grizzlies basketball, and SEO (I currently work for Wunderman Memphis).
By day I work as the Billing Manager for Imperial Security; by night I am a full time student at the University of Memphis; and, when time allows it, I do a little freelance writing in-between.
- I used to be a private investigator.
- I’m married to a twin. I once told my wife that “God broke the mold after he made her…and her twin sister.”
- My friends and family like to pick on me for “poor taste” in music and film. I cannot help that I love a cappella music and Nicolas Cage!
If you decide that you simply cannot get enough of me here, you can check out my website where I try to make a go of it as a freelance writer in Memphis.
