Books to Watch For: June 2013

Joseph Amagliani returns to let you know what books to watch out for as you look for some fun reading on vacations this summer.

The Ocean at the End of the Lane: A Novel

By Neil Gaiman

Release Date: June 18, 2013

One of the more creative authors of recent memory, Neil Gaiman is at it again with another novel, his first since 2005.  Gaiman initially meant for this to be a short story, as evidenced by the book clocking in at under 200 pages.  This time, Gaiman follows a seven-year-old boy as told from his perspective forty years removed.  With Gaiman, one can expect plenty of mythology, magic and mysticism alongside strong writing and compelling narrative.

The Silver Star: A Novel

By Jeannette Walls

Release Date: June 11, 2013

Jeannette Walls, at the very least, is a compelling figure.  A journalist and former gossip column writer, Walls wrote a book about her upbringing, The Glass Castle, in 2005.  That book is now being made into a movie, and Jennifer Lawrence is in talks for playing the lead role.  Now Walls is submitting her second novel to the public, one told from the perspective of a twelve-year-old girl and her challenges with the adult world.

The Heist

By Janet Evanovich and Lee Goldberg

Release Date: June 18, 2013

Bestselling authors Janet Evanovich and Lee Goldberg (writer for the TV show Monk) plan on writing and releasing a four book series together, the first of which is The Heist.  The series follows a female FBI special agent and a con artist in what promises to be an exciting page-turner.
